finally got it........2007-03-13

i first heard this cd on the college radio station, and finally got it. It is a great cd, very diverse and full of thumping drums and melodies. it may have come out in the late eighties but still holds up today. it makes driving a better jouney.

Why three kits?.......2006-07-10

The 3 drum kits, no guitars etc...format, is the result of Witer and Rosewarne banging heads together. Both very clever...highly gifted, but also, feeling the pinch of the old green eyed monster.

The electric piano, at home in jazz fusion, sometimes was not as popular with listeners of rock as the electric guitar heroes of the 80's. Tim wanted some of the limelight...he was looking better than ever in the promotional shots. He was ready to be a star. Why fight with a guitarist for I am a true talent?

Oleh is an exquisite painter. With a critical eye, ear and mouth. And a love of being in the spotlight. Image is everything to Oleh. Hence the slaughterhouse robes, all band members equal...no one standing out, except Oleh with his white hair and dead pan face and the DRUMS, which Oleh was in love with, but was not always as strong or experienced enough to carry the bass. He then knew two drum kits would show his weakness...three kits, well no one except those in the know could fathom the meaning that...!!!But I know...Oleh was known to be weak at drum rolls too.

They couldn't find a female vocalist really deserving of their cleverness, such as a Souixie Souix...so there was Sherine, I guess...a marriage of convenience...very talented people gathered for the Big Pig attack and there was alot of energy in this record and power to them for that.

What they needed though was true inspiration. Eventually Big Pig just stopped breathing. 3 stars for effort.

Shreek

not the POPPER mix of Breakaway!.......2006-01-05

For years, I've been wishing for a reissue of this CD with the club mix of Breakway, which I personally find to be a much stronger, pumpin dance version than the messy 12" b-side, the Popper mix, which is already available on one of the Retro Active volumes by Hi-bias. Looks like the club mix will never surface on CD...

Big Pig Say: "Bonk!!!".......2005-12-15

Bonk is full of catchy pop tunes, but unlike much pop, this stuff grows on you as you get to know it. The simple arrangements allow the vocals to really stand out. You can dance to it, you can groove to it or you can sing along. Try "Break Away", "Big Hotel" and "Money God" for starters. The latter could easily have come from the Eurythmics. Excellent, driven tunes.

Can't Breakaway.......2005-09-06

Great album by a somewhat neglected band. "Breakaway" remains a classic anthem about race and acceptance. Wish we had heard more of Big Pig and from Big Pig.

Don't ignore this one!.......2006-12-09

If you like discovering unknown bands then look no further... same goes if you're just a fan of good music.
Call it rock, punk or what you will. Just listen to the track "Gifted Children" and you'll understand what I mean. An anthem to be reckoned with coming 2007.

Album Description

From the first note to the last phrase of Jamie Bonk's self-titled debut CD, evocative melodies and pulsating rhythms intertwine to create a thoroughly unique listening experience. This is contemporary instrumental music that moves between and around a wide variety of textures and moods. Jamie's guitar playing is melodic at its core with melodies that flow into and out of improvisations.

Percussion is the foil for melody in Jamie's compositions. If you liked Mickey Hart's "Planet Drum" you're sure to enjoy the world percussion flavours on "Jamie Bonk". Percussion sets an undulating bed for lyrical melodies; the listener always feels a pulse in Jamie's music.

Jamie's guitar playing and use of percussion are not the only highlights on "Jamie Bonk", which is the first release from the new contemporary instrumental label Bonk Productions. Ambient space also plays a defining role. Fans of Patrick O'Hearn, Enya, and Ottmar Liebert will enjoy the textural complexity heard throughout the CD.

If you love instrumental guitar music, this is a great album. It's not really flamenco, more of a moody Craig Chaquico with the soft touch of a Govi or Ramon Bermudez. I buy way too many guitar albums, and this is the best one I've come across in a year or two. A new CD is due in late summer, 2000. I'll certainly buy it. The artist has a web page at JamieBonk.com.

Great relaxing flamenco music.......2000-08-09

This is great cd for guests... they always want to borrow it when they leave! If you like the style of Jesse Cook, Liebert, Govi, etc, this is right up with the best of their work. A bit more relaxed than Jesse Cook and not as well known though from the same area (in Canada), Jamie Bonk will delight those that want something more. Recommended.

Beautiful, thought provoking and evocative.......1999-09-13

Bill Bonk writes simple, beautiful folk rock tunes. From Spaghetti Western's Neil Finn-ish opener Calico, through to the wonderful Still Waters Run Deep and World Gone Mad, this album is consistently lush and listenable. Bill has toured with the likes of Ron Sexsmith and Grant Lee Buffalo,and has shown that he is both a wonderful musician and a great personality in his own right. The lyrics are thought provoking and unpretentious, and the tunes tend to lull you and suck you in. As is the norm apparently with many of the Hollywood underground set (Grant Lee Buffalo, Phil Parlapiano, etc) Bill is an under appreciated artist who produces quality work. This is without a doubt a fine album. Bring on the second!

Get out there and find this album... you will not regret it.
