Product Description
Stephen & David Dewaele from Soulwax have created a new way of old-style DJ-ing, which is definitely influenced by great names like DJ Kool Herc, Granmaster Flash and Melle Mel. Their cutting technique just works in a major fashion, just listen to the intro by Emerson, Lake & Palmer Vs. Basement Jaxx. Others thrown into this past & present eclectic mix include Velvet Underground, Salt 'n Pepa, The Stooges, 10cc, Royksopp, The Breeders and... you get the idea. Check it out!

Album Details

As Pioneers of the Mash-up Scene, the Soulwax Boys were the First to Actually Get Something Into the Public Domain, and You Can but Wonder at How They Managed to Get Most of the Stuff on Here Cleared for Use. Despite their Clever Moniker, Two Many Djs is Just Two Guys with a Digital Mixer and a Box Full of Tracks that You'd Never Think to Mix Together. The CD Kicks off with a Bonus Hidden Remix of Kylie Minogue's 'can't Get You Out of My Head' and You Actually have to Search Skip Backwards to Before the First Track to Hear It. From Salt 'n' Pepa's "Push It" Cut Up with the Stooges' "no Fun", to Destiny's Child's "Independent Woman" Over 10cc's "Dreadlock Holiday", Blending Seamlessly Into Dolly Parton's "Nine to Five", the Tracklisting May Look Like Someone's Idea of a Joke, but Somehow it Works. This is Quite Possibly the Ultimate Party Soundtrack with Something for Everyone and the Emphasis Firmly on Fun.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite CDs.......2006-07-18

I love this album. It's great to hear in the car, at home when you want to unwind and dance...anywhere. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves to dance.

5 out of 5 stars David Bowie Loves It!.......2005-08-14

I am an ex-brit and occasionally listen to radio interviews via internet from the UK. I heard David Bowie raving about this CD last year, and I promptly bought it. It's fascinating both musically and technically and is a fantastic party CD. If you're into one-of-a-kind mixed CDs this can only be appreciated by listening to it. Truly innovative.

5 out of 5 stars I wish you could give six stars.......2005-05-03

This is one of the best things CDs ever. No kidding.

5 out of 5 stars A quest to construct the perfect mix.......2004-10-27

Soulwax members Stephen and David Dewaele (2 Many DJ's) created a series of radio-show mix sessions, few, if any were recorded live; which is somewhat obvious, since the mixes are so tight and precise. They use the glory of computer processing and editing software to deconstruct pop music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s into exciting new directions. Due to licensing impossibilities, the mixes are sadly only available as import only releases, fully licensed and bonded for the Benelux countries alone, which means we just have to pay more for them.

Spanning 30 tracks in just 60 minutes, these complex jaw dropping mixes pass quickly, leaving the desire for repeat listening. One may think that mixing 3 records together at once would leave a cluttered mess, if so, reevaluate the way you think. These mixes are tightly produced using computer software, leaving no sloppy, ill timed mixes behind. The sound is much better than your average exclusive mixes you may have heard for internet radio stations.

Mixing an equal number of underground techno records, with pop music makes for a perfect balance. The track listing above isn't very accurate, so don't get confused by my following comments. The opener, a mix of Emerson Lake and Palmer's live version of "Peter Gun" and Basement Jaxx's "Wheres Your Head At" is a larger than life intro for the album. The Velvet Underground's "I'm Waiting For The Man" is equally satisfying. Ready For The World's "Oh Sheila" mixes in some sweet percussion. It's amazing how seamlessly they mixed "Independent Women" by Destiny's Child with Dolly Parton's "9 to 5". Also not listed above, Michael Jackson's "Billi Jean" also gets mixed in. My personal favorite mix is Skee Lo's "I Wish" mixed with "Cannonball" by the Breeders. This mix is similar to The Avalanches' "Gimix", also mixing in "Sandwiches" by Detroit Grand Pubahs.

Overall, 2 Many DJ's resets the standards of what you can do with mixing, turning it into an exhilarating art form. This CD has something for underground gurus and pop junkies alike. It's spreading like wildfire among my friends; they just got to have it after they hear it. If you're drooling as you read the track listing above, asking yourself - I wonder if it sounds a great as it looks, the answer is YES.

4 out of 5 stars Almost the perfect Dance party CD.......2003-09-14

I'm impressed by the wide range of musical genres 2 Many DJs incorporates on this fantastic CD. Salt n' Peppa mixed with the Stooges, Skee-lo mixed with Electric Six, Dolly Parton, The Velvet Underground, Felix da Housecat... that's pretty darn awesome. Unfortunately, the entire CD isn't captivating. There are about 2 ten-minute sections on the CD where it dives into relatively mundane techno, void of any Hip Hop or Rock influence---not being a fan of techno, I just hit the skip button a few times. Still, these two sections don't bring down the CD as whole. Perfect for the young scenesters or top 40 gals, this is a great CD filled with songs and mixes that'll perk up anyone's ears at a dance party.

          Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars solid entry in series.......2004-12-11

This is no better or worse than volumes 1, 3, & 4. A bit off from volume 2 so no 5 star from me. The fellow that gives it 2 stars seems to have been dissapointed because of his somewhat odd expectations, not because this is a clunker.

2 out of 5 stars Be Careful! Not the full tracks!.......2004-05-14

I bought this cd for the moonraker track by formeost poets and when I got it found that it only had 5 seconds of the song! Many of the tracks listed above are less than a minute long. The one good thing was it was shipped to me in less than a week, which is impressive considering it came from England.

                Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars this one is a dud.......2005-05-13

I really enjoyed the first two discs in this series, but this one was a real disappointment. Instead of offering a lot of clever song combinations, this one is more like quick 30 second samples of various songs with a constant beat in the background. What's unbearable is that you'll hear "RADIO SOULWAX!", "RADIO DJ!", etc interjected over and over again throughout the tracks, which completely ruins the mood in my opinion. This happened to a lesser extent in the first two discs, but this time it was out of control.

4 out of 5 stars Good, not great.......2003-06-26

If you like part 2, you'll like this. While Part 2 was absolutely fantastic, this is less so. Still very good, but not as immediately grabbing nor full-on as its predecessor.
