Never predictable, Washington, D.C., duo Deep Dish mix tunes in that resolutely Chocolate City way--just a little short of menacing. Their Ibiza mix debut follows their city's warped but fun tradition to the letter, bending the rules of the club compilation along the way. Despite being recorded for the progressive house heads at Renaissance, this is not Sasha & Digweed breakdown music or chill-out for the hyperactive. Instead, Deep Dish serve up old fashioned trance--cinematic, euphoric, and definitely not soul-soothing. When they drop Everything but the Girl's "Temperamental" and twist it into a tech-house monster groove, we have our first truly Balearic moment. From this point, the double-disc set kicks into overdrive, working up the music into hard-core sci-fi funk. This doesn't mean that the Yoshi Toshi boys are averse to genre trashing. Dubfire and partner's sweeping elegiac mix mashes up thumping floor fillers, twisted Latino bass, "I Testify" garage music, Radiohead wannabes Muse ("Sunburn"), and Kinetic's "Golden Girls" with tongue firmly in cheek. On the second disc the emphasis switches from melody to rhythmic intensity and rushes of sound. Flutes, drums, and dubbed-out vocals carry tunes such as "Ubik" (Timo Maas), "Dreaming" (BT), and "Circuit Breaker" (ECVM) before edging toward the madness of Green Velvet's freak show, "Flash." --Maxine Kabuubi

Renaissance Presents the Third Volume of "The Sound of Renaissance", which Comes Directly from the Island of Ibiza. The Mix features Two Discs that Mirror the Moods of the Island: "Beach" Takes Its Inspiration from the Famed Chilled, Balearic Vibe, While "Club" Draws on the Hottest Dancefloor Tracks to Provide an Upfront Mix that Encapsulates the Spirit of Renaissance's Summer Residence at Pacha. The Luxurious Packaging Includes an Eight Page Digipack with Slipcase and an Extremely High Quality Gloss Finish. The Discs were Mixed by Ex-café Mambo Resident Pete Gooding and Renaissance Resident Marcus James.

UK label giant, Renaissance, goes with a couple of lesser known DJ's in this two disc set. A novel idea to try to include the entire Ibiza experience by including a chillout set and a club set, but maybe a little ambitious.

Disc 1 (Beach) is the chillout set. I'm always a sucker for a great chillout album, but unfortunately this is not one of them. Downtempo tracks have to be considered the easiest to mix (crossfading is usually all that is needed!) so I'm not quite sure why Pete Gooding decided to mix just a few while leaving the others unmixed. Makes the set seemed rushed and unprofessional. Despite this oddity, the track selection is uninspiring. "Conceptions", "Easy", and the trio (which are actually mixed), "Nature", "Belfast", and "Is Anybody out There?" are the better ones.

The tracks on Disc 2 (Club) are pretty good, but the actually mixing is average at best. You also get this vibe that DJ Marcus James was trying to accomplish a little too much in his 70 min set. I love ecletic sets with build-ups, tempo changes and so on, but this set would have worked out much better if James had an extra half hour or so. The first five tracks are great with a steady downtempo groove. The set is briefly interupted by the terrible track, "Last Rhythm", before taking off in tempo and changing to more electro/tech sounding house. Finally it mellows out again over the last couple of tracks. Doesn't that sound like it should be a two hour set? Could have done without the tracks "Weird Science" by James Zabiela and "Change the World" by The Housemartins, and Dino Lenny.

Disc 1 gets 2.5/5 stars, and disc 2, a generous 4/5 stars (mostly for its strong first 20 min).

Disc 2 makes this release worth the price........2007-02-05

I'm not sure why everyone decides to split up complilations in 2 parts. Disc one is labeled "beach." It's a chillout disc with all of the same downtempo tracks that we have heard time and time again...except re-mixed. Personally, I don't buy downtempo or chillout type of discs...and it always bothers me when I pick up a release expecting 2 discs of solid club music.
Disc 2 (club) makes this worth the money. Track #1 starts out with a very good vocal track. After a solid opening and steady build up the disc really starts to get going. I could have done without the played out track "Last Rhythm" that seems to be on every other complilation. Remember, this is supposed to be a look into the hottest tracks in Ibiza.
However, just when I was thinking that perhaps I wasted my money...we take a turn for the better. The track "release" gets things going and is really really good with some low lying basslines, and great beats.
"Discopolis" was another disappointment. This has been played and re-played on several releases wwaayyy before this came out. C'mon, I want something that I haven't heard before.
However, we end things very nicely with "He doesn't love you". Good remix of another club hit.

In summary, disc 2 makes it worth the money...but I am only giving 3 stars.

And if you aren't feeling great by the end of Disc One's tribal house set, then Disc Two's trance set will have you all wound up and ready to give some loving to the perfect end that Disc Three's ambient trip-hop set wraps up with.

Being a fan of the electronic genre, Renaissance Ibiza, the 2001 Collection really appeals to the vast taste in current clubbing music. Each set is extremely well done and everything here is fresh and ready to get you going. With three discs, each with a different flavor of electronic, you've got the perfect travelling, working or background CD... but who'd use it for background music?? This CD inspires some servere body moving and even now I find it difficult to concentrate with such amazing rythyms beating from my speakers.

For the price, this is an amazing bargin! I originally heard the entire three sets on MP3 and after scouring the retail world and DJ stores locally, I turned to [the internet] where I found it for [price]. What a steal for three discs packed with songs I never have to skip!

If you have a vast taste in electronic music, including a love for tribal house, trance and ambient/trip-hop, you owe it to yourself to pick up this CD at this cost. However, if you find you really only love one type of electronic music (i.e. Psy, Trance, DnB, etc...), you might want to skip over it because you'll find yourself only spinning one or two discs.

CD's 1 and 2 are both interesting in their own way - and make for some decent listening, However, it is Wally lopez's CD3 that is really the standout. Dark, Tribal House at it's best. You can tell that he has been tweaking his set with bigger sounding remixes of familiar tunes (some from his last mix - 'I'm coming to London'). An excellent song selection mixed together in a compelling flow - creating an altogether solid and intense tribal house set. If you are looking for a strong and consistent mix of House music you can't do much better than this Wally Lopez mix.

Dubfire and partner's sweeping elegiac mix mashes up thumping floor fillers, twisted Latino bass, "I Testify" garage music, Radiohead wannabes Muse ("Sunburn"), and Kinetic's "Golden Girls" with tongue firmly in cheek. On the second disc the emphasis switches from melody to rhythmic intensity and rushes of sound. Good mix, some good tracks.......2006-07-22

This is the best deep dish mix, no doubt, but not the best deep dish album. I would try Toronto 25 or dubfire toronto. It does have a cool mix of Moby's Porcelain, and hits such as Timo Maas, Sven Vath, Morel, Muse and BT's Dreaming. Pick it up for kicks or if you are looking for some mellow trance. It has a nice elogated version of Barberella. This cd takes patience to listen to.

This album defined my musical listening taste for local groups. I originally bought this album as an import, sadly, my ex swiped it when we broke up. I am now purchasing this album for a second time, a strong testiment for my love of this album. this is well worth the money, anyone who loves Tiesto or Oakey, but likes a bit of a darker edge, try this album on for size and I guaruntee you will love it.

This has got to be the best cd they ever put out. Some may argue that the yoshiesque cd's are better, but I beg to differ. This is flawless stuff. It's hard edged, yet soothing. It's borderline trance, house, and progressive. It's funky, deep, and soulful. It caters to everyone. This is what Deep Dish USED to sound like. This cd should definetly be the first Deep Dish cd you buy. This is the MOST concise definition of Deep Dish. ENJOY!!

Deep Dish Do Prog House Fresh to your Ears!!!.......2003-03-11

Deep Dish are one of my favorite DJs. They really have a sense for the classic tracks and mix these in liberally. When I first bought this disc I was somewhat disappointed. But as usual, good things happen to those who wait. After checking it out again recently, I now realize how deep these cuts are and how enjoyable they are to listen to. The first disc starts slowly and builds to EBTG Tempermental which is followed by the awesome Barbarella by Sven Vath. The disc continues to build nicely and with the beginning of Disc 2 with Timo Mass' Ubik (album version) I am now spinning out of control with my glow stick in hand waiting for the next track. Later Deep Dish take it to a trippy level with Green Velvet's "Flash" and the real kicker comes with BT's "Dreaming" which is truly splendid. Another disc using this same track is Renaissance Awakening with Dave Seaman (which is slightly better). Overall, Deep Dish delivers yet another solid progressive house set that borders on trance at times. Smoooth work Guys! Enjoy!!

Disc 1 The Trip, Disc 2 Mainsteam.......2007-06-03

It is clearly evident for fans of the label giants, Renaissance and Global Underground that both try hard to be fresh in track selection in relation to the other (for the most part). They generally use the same world-class DJ's and each have their unique subseries titles.

More often than not, I feel the consumer gets a little more bang for their buck with Renaissance titles. At least when it comes to diversity within a multiple disc set.

The same holds true with this compilation. Two discs that are so completely different, I had to initially convince myself that the duo Deep Dish mixed them both.

Disc 1 still gets a lot of play time at my place. Wonderful and creative mix that would still hold up in most clubs or live venues today (well, maybe that's a overstatement). This one takes you on a great journey courtesy D.C.'s most infamous DJ's. A few tacky vocal tracks prevent this set from being truely timeless and truely great.

Time has been fairly merciless to disc 2. There are quite a few clubbers' classic on this one, but overall it sounds very outdated when played today.

If you've had the pleasure of hearing these guys mix live as a pair (and enjoy their sets as a duo) then you won't be disappointed with disc 1. By now, you probably have over a dozen albums featuring at least half the tracks on disc 2.

Disc 1 gets 4/5 stars and Disc 2 gets 3/5 stars.

I have Renaissance 1 by Sasha and Digweed, and Renaissance 2 by Digweed alone. They are just incomparably good and nothing will ever come close to matching them. But I found this mix really worth listening to. Looking forward to Deep Dish in Hong Kong in two weeks' time.

After about the third or fourth spin, you'll find you won't be able to take this CD out of your car. But listener be warned, the Deep Dish experience is unlike any other trance mix CD. Snare drums and other dance music clichés are forsaken for effortless & fresh mixing techniques. Deep Dish really aren't about trance (although this CD is more trance-y than Yoshiesque) - and this is a good thing. How many continuously mixed trance CDs does one need? Put down some moolah for this CD and you'll find a whole new fresh perspective on dance music.

Deep Dish triumphs again.......2000-09-17

If you thought their last CD, Yoshiesque, was good - prepare to be blown away. First off, this mix is dark, dark, dark... a delicious blend of deep house and trance that really takes you on a journey.

There are some incredible peaks and breaks on this CD - highlights include the Hex Hector mixes of Everything But The Girl's Temperamental, Timo Mass' superb remix of Lustral's Everytime, and pounding yet hilarious Danny Tenglia mix of Green Velvet's Flash...

The mixing on this CD is fluid and smooth with plenty of tricks and treats for the listener to discover.

Not good.......2005-12-11

It's been awhile since i have bought a CD that I absolutely thought was horrible. Well, that fatefull day came once again when Pacha Ibiza, Vol. 2 arrived. Most of the music is absolutley nothing new, and CD's 2 and 3 sound like they are geared for the Studio 54 audience. If I wanted Diana Ross 70's music I would buy it. I bought Pacha Ibiza, Vol. 2 thinking it would be smooth bumpin beats. Try shallow, clunky, and washed up. Do not buy this CD, and do not buy this cd for anyone, it's a horrible waste of money and time. Buy Pure Pacha 2005, or Pure Pacha Winter Sessions. Both are very good.
