2 out of 5 stars Sounds like nothing special & weak versions of other bands.......2006-03-08

I first heard of Deepest Blue from the 'Deepest Blue' John Hopkins Mix on the Ministry of Sounds Chillout Sessions 2004 CD. I really love this version of the song & this made me want to track down the bands other works, this CD.

Well, I know the track I love & still strongly recommend is a remix. That remix's are always different from the bands original version of the song but I was really amazed just how different it was. I expected something more in lines the the other Ministry of Sounds CD's I have.

What I got was a weak, cross between erasure & Savage Garden! That was a shock, there are good songs on the album but nothing as strong as either band unfortunately.

Also the remix CD has not go the 'Deepest Blue' John Hopkins Mix on it either. The remix CD is nothing & is nothing special in anyway.

All in all, very disappointed in the CD's but still recommend tracking down Chillout Sessions 2004 & sticking with the John Hopkins Mix on that album.

5 out of 5 stars Really like this one!.......2005-06-24

I enjoy this cd a lot.. the songs are great and really show off Deepest Blue's terrific voice. This is one of the best cd's I've purchased in quite some time. Expensive because it's an import, but worth it if your a fan of this artist. If you like the song "Deepest Blue", you will enjoy the rest of the cd!

4 out of 5 stars Blue.. and nothing else to say.......2005-03-09

I first listened to "Give it away" on the radio and I fell in love with it, but then, when I listened to the whole album I realize that "Give it away" is the most electronic beat you would ever hear from them, anyway the album is really good, all dance-pop, (kinda kylie minogue, and maybe atomic kitten but in a male version of it)and the song that names the album "Late September" is even kinda trip-hop, very good album to listent at in a rainy afternoon

5 out of 5 stars Deepest blue...shooting stars!.......2004-11-25

As soon as i heard deepest blue's debut single i fell in love with it...as i did with the follow up "give it away".I was a little dissapointed with "is it a sin", but the more i listened to it the more i liked it...The day the album was released i flew down to the shop, grabbed my copy and ran home to stick it on...i knew i'd love it as soon as i heard the intro song "be still my heart"
Everything is brilliant from all the sound samples by Matt Schwartz to Joel Edwards gorgeous voice...The best song on the album by a million miles is definately "shooting star" which is so beautiful, i've never had that song off my stereo and the video (found on the single) is amazing...i can't beleive that when "shooting star" was released as a single it failed to reach the uk top 40....Hopefully deepest blue will have better success than they've had in the UK and keep going. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST POP/DANCE ALBUM OF 2004...IF NOT THE BEST ALBUM OF 2004...Worth buying just for shooting star alone! :) li

1 out of 5 stars Deepest Blue? More like Deepest Poo.......2004-11-16

Crap crap crap. Stick to what you're good at. While good ol' Daniel Bedingfield's Gotta Get Thru This measured the strengths of good songwriting, plodding electronic beats, and a mix of uk garage and pop, Deepest Blue try very hard to capture the same pastiche and they have failed very very badly.

The album as a whole deserves 1 star, however, there are two brilliant singles "Deepest Blue," in which the nice guy at the club just wants to get closer to the honey across the way, and "Give It Away," in which a swirl of heavy keyboards leads into a pop-trance pathway of generosity. These deserve 5 stars.

But complementing these two the other tracks do not. "Is It a Sin" is awful. It's like an attempt to be the next Savage Garden, and really, that is not a wise goal. "Can't Believe"? I "can't believe" they thought this was a good idea! Is this pop music or is it a re-recording of a drunken version of a Kylie Minogue tune. Excuse me while I get a copy of 3 of a Kind's "Baby Cakes" to wash down the misery. I mean, I've read that the duo of Deepest Blue are actually nice guys, but no, save your money. Get the singles instead.

5 out of 5 stars Brecht sings!.......2003-02-02

Come on! A chance to hear Bertolt Brecht sing his own Mack the Knife before Bobby Darrin messed it up! How many CDs are going to have that?!

3 out of 5 stars Some good, some bad, all Weill........2003-01-02

Kurt Weill and Broadway fans will probably feel an intense need to have this album, and I'm not sure I'd be able to dissuade them. There's some good stuff on this recording, to be sure, but a great deal of it is in German, and much of it might not interest even someone with just a casual interest in the material chronicled. While there's a strong representation of The Threepenny Opera (all in German), the selections from Lady in the Dark featuring Gertrude Lawrence and Danny Kaye are vital, as are the tracks of Mary Martin and Kenny Baker performing selected numbers from One Touch of Venus. (You can also hear Walter Huston performing a song from Knickerbocker Holiday, though it is, for some strange reason, "The Scars." It's an interesting historical record, but not a great song.) Lotte Lenya also sings some as well, which is a treat, but overall, this is a highly variable recording. Make sure you know exactly what you're getting beforehand, or you may be likely to find yourself--as I do--listening to only half the album.

          Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Deepest Blue is Deeply Moving .......2005-10-24

Music listeners usually frown when worlds collide (it did not do any justice when R. Kelly and Jay-Z collaborated on two forgettable albums), but here the music industry might have stuck gold.

Joel Edwards and Matt Schwartz have truly made a pop masterpiece with the debut of 'Late September.' Thoughtful lyrics written by the duo, accompanied by catchy and moving melodies make this ten track album a prized possession.

Dance fans will rejoice with their two smash hit dance singles, the thumping "Give It Away," and the moody but enchanting "Deepest Blue." But just because the first two singles shifted into overdrive in the dance scenario, doesn't mean this is a cliched attempt following the success of DJ Sammy and D.H.T.

Instead, most of the album focuses on laid back pop tunes with more guitar driven beats than electronica. "Be Still My Heart" starts the CD off with a mellow tone but not before diving into the refreshing "Is It A Sin," sending listeners into musical bliss. The definate highlight of this album has to be the empowering, hair standing up on end "Shooting Star" with its clever lyrics (You're a shooting star that fell without a trace, and you shot so far that you're mind began to race.) and its haunting beat really make this a track that deserved more attention than it received.

The bonus CD filled with remixes wasn't necessary, but for those who gasped at the thought of Deepest Blue going from dance to pop can thump their hearts a flutter with the six minute remixes for their most popular songs "Deepest Blue," "Give It Away," "Shooting Star," and "Is It A Sin."

The CD boasts that Deepest Blue has sold over 70,000 copies in the UK alone. Now they can add one more to that as they have just found another devoted fan who cannot wait until their next album.
