Album Description

Maria Bamford speaks in many voices. No, She is not an impressionist, unless you count the stellar impression of her mom. Maria feels her high-pitched voice does not command respect, as a result, she has taken on many voices to help her in her wickedly funny jokes. Decidedly off-beat, Maria has a wide-eyed innocence that comes shining through on this, her debut on CD.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars You'll LOVE Maria!!.......2007-05-26

I don't remember how or when I first heard of Maria Bamford, but upon that first listen I was instantly hooked! Hers is one of the few comedy CDs that I will listen to over and over again and still laugh in all the same places.

Her comedy style is an erratic but exhilarating ride through a crazy array of subjects and funny voices --- you'll never guess what she's going to talk about or SOUND like next!

Maria's tales of temp work, beauty pageant contestants (one of my favorite voices), women's magazine advice and outrageous impressions of her dear, sweet mom will have you laughing 'til your guts hurt!

Definately unique and not your average woman comic, I am also amazed that Maria is not yet so well known!

(So buy her CD now, so we can quote her first!)

5 out of 5 stars Best female standup out there..........2006-12-21

This is honestly some the best standup comedy I've ever heard. Maria is unique and quirky in her humor, and this cd really does her justice. I've yet to find one person who hasn't laughed out loud several times during this cd. While her many (very impressive) voices are her main attraction, she doesn't overdo them...she backs everything up with solid comedy that is actually FUNNY. She's also very quotable.

Too many female comediennes now seem like they're just struggling to make it in a man's world, so their routines are usually either too wraunchy, desperate, or man-hating. Not even a hint of that with Maria. She's brilliantly hilarious and her comedy is a brand of its own. An undeniable true talent.
Entertaining, energetic, and witty- you'll become a Maria Bamford fan within 10 minutes of listening to this cd.

Personal favorite tracks: Small Talk, Crazy Cult, Vennette

5 out of 5 stars Very Funny Chick .......2006-03-05

I checked this girl out because I was noticing her on different TV shows and whatnot, and I checked out her CD. It is so incredibly hilarious. Her voices are very funny, and her talk about "sexual harrassment" is funny as well. If you're going to buy the CD, buy it for her explaining what to do with Saddam. Make him a Roller Rink DJ. Funny stuff. I haven't seen her live, as with any comedian, but I'm sure she brings the same things to the table as on this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Very Impressive Debut Album.......2006-02-02

There's a bit of a lack right now of really unique, standout female comics, and I'm keeping a close eye on Bamford. Her act works because she A) is down-to-Earth and sincere, not an invented "character"; and B) her voices take her beyond the formulaic joke-telling practiced by most comics. And an important part of why her voices are so effective is that she never uses them in an announced, "hey guys, I'd like to do some impressions now" kind of way. Her characters come up naturally, and are used to discuss interesting subjects and social points. Characters presented conversationally as a tool for satire is infinitely more interesting than the almost Vaudevillian "Here are my impressions guys" format.

Maria Bamford's work on "Burning Bridges" is diverse in subject matter, yet consistently funny. It's an excellent introduction to Bamford's vulnerable and insightful presence. Along with her partners who tour together as the "Comedians of Comedy", she is underated, inspired, and hopefully a star in the making.

5 out of 5 stars Keep Burning Those Bridges.......2005-12-04

I first became aware of Maria Bamford a couple years back when I chanced upon a stellar one-hour special of hers on Comedy Central. Maria was funny as hell (funnier, actually), and quite memorable what with her intelligent odd-ball tangents and cute, squeeky voice. But her prosaic name (No offense) slipped my mind after a while. And it wasn't until November of 2005, when I saw the Comedians of Comedy film, that I instantly recognized her and was able to finally put a name to her pretty face. "Hey, 'Maria Bamford' --- THAT'S her name. Maria Bamford! Maria Bamford!" I was glad to have solved this mystery, especially since Robert Stack was now worm food.

Anyway, I feel tired all of a sudden doing all this typing. Perhaps I'll describe her CD in detail at a later point. For now, all you need to know is... yes, The Burning Bridges Tour is a funny listen. The hilarious punchlines are definitely there, but I find the overall tone of her delivery most captivating of all. (Her mock "alpha female" voice is particularly amusing.)

4 out of 5 stars Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31

The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

5 out of 5 stars Xena;Warrior Princess volume six.......2002-01-09

I am so happy that the last and final cd has come out, now my collection is complete. I am very sad for the show ending, but I am glad to still collect things.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2001-12-25

Well, I have them all by now, but this last one is a great collection, with the added bonus of the music from A Friend In Need.
Just another fine addition to my Xena collection!

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2001-11-30

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month! That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included, especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though, there is a complain:i can't understand, why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song, the cues from the Bacchaen festival, music from Deja Vou All Over Again, where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest! That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style, should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes. It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song, will agree with me!Mmmm!

4 out of 5 stars A MIX OF THE BEST, THE WORST AND THE MISSING.......2001-11-29

To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

5 out of 5 stars If you only buy one zydeco cd, get this one........1999-09-05

This offering from the Zydeco Flames is music that will make it difficult to resist the urge to get off your feet and move. The Flames have the perfect combination of blues, zydeco, and swing sound that should appeal to a big audience. Bruce Gordon is fabulous on keyboards/accordian and Freeway Frank Bohan adds a brilliant blues touch to even the classic zydeco numbers. Also, there is a good mix of covers (9) and well-written originals (6). If you ever get a chance to see these guys live, don't miss it. This is great music to drive by, but watch the speedometer.

5 out of 5 stars Burning Up For This Single.......2005-01-07

Burning Up is one of Madonna's best 80's dance tracks. It's got great lyrics and a great beat. The single only has two tracks but it is still hot.

1. Burning Up: This is actually a remix (the 12"remix). This version has a heavier sound to it and uses more synthesizers. I prefer this version to the original.

2. Physical Attraction: This is the album version. This song is a great dance tune, but it's over 7 minutes long and gets a little boring toward the end. 5 minutes would have been a good cut off for this song.

This single is great to have if you don't have the re-mastered version of Madonna- The First Album.

4 out of 5 stars Great.......2002-10-26

This remix of Burning Up is by far one of her BEST remixes of the 80's. It has a different sound from the album version--it's more danceable and longer. It's so good. The original version is already a cool song, but this remix really does it justice. The second track, Physical Atraction is another song I really like. This is the album version. Anyway, if you're a Madonna fan, and dont have this already, get it! it's one of the better '80's re-issue german singles.

4 out of 5 stars Nothing is as good as the first time.......2000-06-14

This was the first Madonna single that I bought, in 1984 way back before she was the icon that she is today. I instantly fell in love with it, back then it was on 12" vinyl. I was fortunate enough to buy it as a domestic single. Burning Up was the song of the summer. Physical Attraction was the song to cha cha to. It still birngs back fond memories every time I hear it. I am glad that a new audience is learning to appreciate this classic.

5 out of 5 stars Burning Up Remix is GREAT.......1999-12-14

Don't write this cd off just because it only has 2 songs on it. It has a great remix of one of Madonna's best songs...Burning Up...this remix has more synths and less guitars. It doesn't soften the edge that the original had either. A good buy.

2 out of 5 stars Not good enough.......1999-09-27

Like any good meal, Bill Wharton's Recipes is chock full of variety, from the tight blues-rock of "She's a Monkey" (and check out the bass work on this one) to the sweet closing chords of "It's Always Twilight Time." In between there's your swampy rock ("Ten Foot Pole"), your upbeat shuffle with a seasoning of crunchy guitar ("Little Brother"), your foot-stomping slide-guitar blues ("Your Maytag Done Broke Down"), and your requisite guitar and bass interplay ("Hangin' with the Band"). As these titles suggest, Wharton's not above a bit of whimsy, and that's fine--it makes for an album that's more fun than a barrelful of kittens. And just to prove that there's a place for the blues in this wired world, he's even got a song about the Web: "The Cyber Blues," complete with a sample of a dialing modem. That's only the beginning of the high tech; this CD's full of extras one needs a computer to properly appreciate, with the system requirements included right in the CD booklet. --Genevieve Williams

    Album Description

THE MULTIMEDIA EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME . . (get this!) Recipes: Bill Wharton's new CD-Rom cookbook/Blues album, with a culinary travelogue and gumbo video, interfaced with the Sauce Boss website and all on a single disc. If you think this is a lot to byte off, you're right. No one has done it. It is a mouthful just saying what it is:

    1. A full length Blues album 2. A cookbook 3. A Culinary travelogue 4. A History of Bill Wharton's Liquid Summer Hot Sauces 5. A gumbo video 6. A link to the sauceboss.com website for current recipes, concert listings, photos, sound clips, and MP3 giveaways Bill Wharton is the Sauce Boss, a Florida blues man, who makes his own hot sauce, and feeds his audiences gumbo. Since 1990, the Sauce Boss has delighted the crowds with his high-energy "dinner" music. No schmaltz here, but instead, it's a git-down, soul-shouting picnic of rock-n-roll brotherhood.

After a few thousand gigs, The Ingredients (his band) have found the groove. After serving 60,000 bowls of his signature gumbo, the Sauce Boss has become a phenomenon, playing/cooking from Paris to New York, Key West to Canada, California and back home again.

After four albums on the Kingsnake label, Bill Wharton releases Recipes, an enhanced CD on his own label, Burning Disk. Recipes: it's cyberblues. An interactive root crop. Music and food. You can play it on your stereo, or load it into your computer and print out recipes for tonight's dinner. And the music Nobody plays like Bill Wharton. Rhythmic, swampy, self-styled slide guitar blues from Florida, a true original. Kenny Neal adds some Louisiana harp to the recipe for a couple of tunes. Producer Bob Greenlee (Mr. Kingsnake) lays down bass on two songs as well. And, of course, the Ingredients, with John Babich on keyboards, and Magic John Jones on bass, are always ready, willing, and able, to sear the juice into the blues.

All in all, Bill Wharton and the Ingredients deliver a heaping platter in Recipes.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Recipes.......2000-01-21

As a 23 year old blues fan, it is tough to find people my age that will listen to blues like this, much less like them. However, when I took my girlfriend to see Bill Wharton in Key West at Margaritaville, she suddenly became a blues fan, and it is now all she can talk about. She has even tried to cook the gumbo, and needs to keep trying. This disc is a must have for those of us that know and love the blues, or who want to turn someone on to the blues. However nothing compares to a show...

    5 out of 5 stars Feed Me - Daddy-O!.......1999-07-21

Bill Wharton's been feeding ALL the senses for a long time, and Recipes has it all. There's Love in this here pot, for sure. Wharton and The Ingredients are certainly musically accomplished enough to succeed mightily without a "gimmick" of any sort, but sitting down to a meal with friends after a wild night of Bill Wharton's musical frenzy is akin to a celebration with one big extended, if perhaps dysfunctional, family. Recipes is a must-have CD for every blues/food enthusiast! Bring on the Big Sausage!

5 out of 5 stars high on the hog with RECIPES-cookin' the blues!.......1999-06-03

Bill Wharton and the Ingredients bring the power of their live shows to this disc. Already a concert stand out "She's a Monkey" follows in the tradition of Wharton's fine originals which stand up to anything else in the contemporary blues artist genre. One can feel the truth when Wharton plays slide guitar as only a handful of North Floridians could. John "JB" Babich does things on a Hammond Organ that could melt a Leslie, and Magic John on bass-well let's just say that he is aptly named."Your Maytag Done Broke Down" is good fun,and could have been a 1954 recording on a number of independent Chiacgo labels but it is not. This is 1999 Florida Panhandle Blues at its best. Bill and his great band "The Ingredients" have toured France, Ireland, the USA and have Canada looming in the future. These songs are road tested, tight, and packed with glory and might. Not to be trapped in traditional blues check out "Big Bang Theory" THIS DISC IS HOT-just like Liquid Summer, but that is another story on this fine five star multi media disc-a Burning Disc in fact-Wharton's own- RECIPES a 5 star musical gumbo of blues and more. This only scratches the surface of what this release holds-the music-so get out the cd players or the computers and either way you are bound to enjoy RECIPES.

5 out of 5 stars Go see Bill Wharton live for a show you will never forget!!!.......1999-06-02

I have to be honest with you. I did not buy the CD but instead bought his hot sauce at a show at Madam's Organ in Washington, DC a couple of weeks ago. I have seen just about anyone you could have ever seen in concert over the last 34 years. Bill Wharton and The Ingredients is one of the best shows I have ever seen and without a doubt the most entertaining. And when the show is over, you get a bowl of some of the tastiest gumbo you will ever have. If he is ever in your area, get your friends together for this party!

4 out of 5 stars The Beginning For Kalonji. . ........2002-05-10

This was Sizzla's first album ever, and it seemingly opened the flood gates, as he's had 15+ in the following years! Lyrically, Burning Up, isn't the best Sizzla that you'll hear, but as it was put together so early in his, that is entirely excusable. It does contain some good tracks however like Can't Hurt the Mind, Gun Ting Don't Pay, Dis Ganstar, and the record that made me start liking his music in the first place Search Fi Hardcore, the entire album has a very rootsy feel to it, and in later terms, I'd probably say it sounds somewhat like the excellent Royal Son of Ethiopia album, not as good lyrically, but still pretty good. And of course all the songs are great as bad songs do not exist on Xterminator. Overall, I say pick this one up, if for no other reason than to see significant level of improvement in Sizzla's skills, not that this is a bad album, but where he's taken his lyrical ability since Burning Up is amazing, I wouldn't recommend it to newer fans of Sizzla however, its more of an album for indoctrined fans of his. Bigup Ras Records!
