Another entry in the dance crossover race, ATB's (otherwise known as DJ Andre Tanneberger) music has always run on the easy-to-swallow side of the dance-music spectrum. Still, this double CD (especially the first disc) occasionally veers into easy-listening boredom or outright dance-pop cheese. While his best-known songs have been energetic and fiery (such as the 1999 party-starter 9 P.M.), this album only sporadically finds the trance-like wash of beats and melody that truly compel the masses to take the dance floor with gusto. Not that it's all like that, of course. The amazing "Hypnotic Beach" swirls twisting, mesmerizing, happy hardcore glitter around trance techno beat structures with gleeful abandon. ATB also explores a memorable downbeat vibe on the second disc. On "Timeless" he trots out drum & bass rhythms and a shadier mood that deepen the sound just right. Too often, though, the melodies and beats blur together as ATB pieces identical samples together throughout the record to a point beyond dance-floor continuity. Heavy on collaborations with the likes of Heather Nova, Enigma, and the Canadian rock band Wild Strawberries, this record is clearly ATB's attempt at a mass-market breakthrough. Let's hope that his supporting tour will feature a riskier mix amidst the candy-coated beats and samples. --Matthew Cooke

5 out of 5 stars The most underrated album in the Allmans' catalog..........2007-06-19

In talking with my amazon friends Finulanu and Ol' nuff n' den sum we are amazed that this album, The Allman Brothers Band's follow up to Seven Turns, is out of print. It's just as good as Seven Turns, and in many ways better, as the playing on it is much more intense. Here, Gregg Allman really shines, not only vocally, but as a songwriter (co-writing the great End of the Line and sole writer on Get On With Your Life). His keyboard work is very good, too. Johnny Neel played keyboards on Seven Turns, while Gregg stayed on organ. Here, he does all the keyboard work for the first time since Duane was in the band. The song Nobody Knows is one of the Allman's greatest songs, a killer epic track (running nearly 11 minutes) with great vocals by Gregg, amazing guitar work by Dickey Betts and Warren Hayes, and some amazing percussion by Jaimoe and Butch Trucks. Despite the lengthy running time on many of these songs, they are remarkably tight, and show that the Allmans know how to jam and jam intensely. They never wander around like the Dead (at least in concert) and Phish would do.

This album needs to be back in print, now! If Seven Turns and Where It All Begins are in print, why not this?

5 out of 5 stars Great Comeback Album.......2007-01-25

I don't have any of the Allmans late 70's or 80's output. The band broke up for a time, but found themselves back in 1991 with a revamped lineup that included Warren Haynes sharing the guitar duties with Dickey Bets and Allen Woody appearing on bass. This is a very strong album. Lyrically I think it is one of the band's best. The first two tracks "End Of The Line" and "Bad Rain" are both great tunes. The third track "Nobody Knows" ranks right up with the Allman's best with great lyrics and a killer jam that clocks in at over 10 minutes. Warren Haynes makes his presence known on this track. "Desert Blues" comes next and is another great song. The rest of the album is also good with the instrumental "Kind Of A Bird" standing out and the closer a cover of Robert Johnson's "Come In My Kitchen" sounding as good if not better than the original. I can't remember if this was the Allmans first comeback album after the breakup or not, but it was certainly a return to form after some of the band's mediocre late 70's and 80's efforts.

5 out of 5 stars One of their Best.......2006-07-19

This is one of the ABs best albums of all time and it is a crime that it is out of print. Many of the songs are covered on live albums, but some are not including the great instrumental "Kind of Bird". Great songs from beginning to end and an excellent recording.

4 out of 5 stars ***3/4 - good but a little unvaried.......2004-08-04

I had heard (well, read) nothing but good things about this hard-to-find 1991 album, the follow-up to the band's excellent 1990 comeback "Seven Turns".
So I expected a lot, but I was a little disappointed at first. "Shades Of Two Worlds" opens with a good, tough rocker, "End Of The Line", and ends with an excellent rendition of Robert Johnson's acoustic country blues "Come On In My Kitchen", but most of what is in between is a little bit unvaried. Almost all of these songs come from the same mold, and "Shades of Two Worlds" doesn't quite have the character of "Seven Turns" or 2003's "Hittin' The Note". And besides, almost all the best songs are on 1992's live "An Evening With The Allman Brothers Band"!

But "Shades" has grown on me. The truly memorable riffs, hooks, and solos are few and far between, but second-rate Allman Brothers is still better than most bands' best efforts. And there is a lot of good stuff here...the slow burner "Get On With Your Life" and the muscular blues-rock of "Desert Blues", "Bad Rain" and "Nobody Knows" is certainly worth a listen, and while "Shades" isn't the most extraordinary thing the Allmans have ever put out, it will grow on you too if you give it some time. Fans will certainly find it well worth their time - if they can get their hands on a copy, that is.

4 out of 5 stars Their best '90s album.......2003-08-01

Shades of Two Worlds is the best album the Allman Brothers Band would release in the '90s and is among their best work. Their previous album Seven Turns was their comeback album and is very good. But Shades of Two Worlds has a stronger set of songs and is a more diverse collection.

Dickey Betts writes most of the tracks on this album, contributing his strongest set of songs since the Brothers and Sisters album. Tracks such as "Bad Rain", "Desert Blues", and the epic "Nobody Knows" are all strong tracks. "Nobody Knows" may be their best track of the '90s, featuring some of Gregg Allman's best vocals and Butch Trucks' and Jaimoe's best drumming ever on a studio track. Dickey Betts and Warren Haynes' guitar playing on this track is also very impressive. The instrumental "Kind Of Bird" is also very strong, more owed to jazz since any instrumental they've recorded since "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed."

Gregg Allman only co-writes two tracks here, but they're both very strong. "Get On With Your Life" is an excellent slow blues that the band has always excelled at. The introspective "End Of The Line" is the album's most well-known track and is among their best recent work. The band also do a cover of Robert Johnson's "Come On In My Kitchen" which is a pleasant surprise. Allman's vocal over Haynes' steel guitar intro and the gospel tinged background vocals help make this song all their own. The only misstep on the album is the track "Midnight Man", which while decent, pales in comparison to the rest of the album. I'd give this album 4 1/2 stars if available. This is a great album which will appeal to all Allman Brothers Band fans. Inexplicably, this album is now out of print. This should be remastered and released once again as this is one of the band's 5 best studio albums.

5 out of 5 stars Abbath shows he's STILL got it!.......2007-05-31

I have no idea where some reviewers are getting a Motorhead comparison here... they need to lay off the pipe, I think.

Except for the absence of crazy fast blastbeat-type drumming, this very well could have been a new Immortal album. The vocals are vintage Abbath, as are the lyrics, but there's less trem-picking and blasting on the drums, so I'm guessing he didn't want to "dilute" the legendary(and deservedly so) Immortal legacy. No worries - this album kicks major ***!

My favorite song is "Warriors" - hands down. And horns up! Abbath shows he is still relevant in the metal genre - so listen up, you young guns - Abbath ain't done yet!

4 out of 5 stars An interesting twist........2007-04-16

I didn't really know what to expect when I bought this album. I knew i was a fan of Immortal's last album 'Sons Of Northern Darkness'. I figured it would be something along those lines. I was mistaken, and delightfully surprised. 'I' features members from Immortal, Enslaved, and Gorgoroth. It is heavy metal with a hint of black metal, and the crisp blackend vocals of Immortals own Olve Eikemo (Abbath). The songs are very catchy and extremely unique. It's a must for any fan of black metal or any one seeking out something new.

4 out of 5 stars Yes! Yes! This rocks!.......2007-03-25

Four years after his old band dissolved, ex-Immortal frontman Abbath (whose real name is Olve Eikemo) has moved on and founded a solo project. This project, which is simply called I, is a supergroup of sorts because it's comprised of members of Immortal (Abbath and drummer Armagedda), Enslaved (guitarist Ice Dale), and Gorgoroth (bassist TC King). I's debut album is aptly entitled "Between Two Worlds" because it draws heavy influence from two bands -- Motorhead and Immortal (only without blast beats) -- and sounds like a mish-mash of classic rock, traditional metal, black/dark metal, speed metal, and (to a lesser extent) thrash. The result is one rockin' good time!

Most of the songs here are composed of only a single riff, but don't let that give you the wrong impression -- the songs never become overly repetitive or stale. "Between Two Worlds" features some of the hookiest, most well-constructed, and best guitar licks put to wax by any band in 2006. They are super groovey, meaty, contagious, heavy yet simultaneously melodic, and they build off of each other and flow together remarkably well. Then, to make an already good album even better, the band add controlled and usually melodic guitar solos (which are reminiscent of Iron Maiden and Megadeth), thumping drum beats, prominent bass lines, and occasional melodic vocals to offset Abbath's signature, throaty black metal croak.

The album shoots out of the starting gate with an ultra-catchy and oh-so-Motorhead-esque tune by the name of "The Storm I Ride." Abbath does his best Lemmy impersonation over a strong, propulsive riff that will have listeners everywhere tapping their feet in rhythm, and a tasty clean solo near the end is the icing on this song's cake. "Warriors" is a significantly slower tune that is more in line with classical metal and boasts two stellar solos (the first of which is almost beautiful.) Next, the title cut is a superbly rhythmic (albeit overlong) number, and is backed by a catchy, galloping rhythm and a ripping, ascending solo. Then, after that, we are treated to the positively blistering "Battalions," which is filled with rocketing tempos, crunchy thrash riffs, and beeping bass notes. "Mountains" is another catchy rocker, and is highlighted by a jaw-droppingly great guitar solo (the album's best!). Moving along, "Days Of North Winds," has more strong, chug and churn riffs and a blazing solo; "Far Beyond The Quiet," is a very open and majestic-sounding piece with effective tempo changes, nice melodic leads, wailing solos, and grumbling bass notes; and lastly, "Cursed We Are," the record's thrashiest track, is fueled by double-kick drums and gobs of fiery, breakneck riffing.

"Between Two Worlds" is far different than anything Immortal ever put out, so it may take some getting used to if you are a longtime fan of that band and expecting this album to continue in that vein. But even though it may not be the follow-up to "Sons of Northern Darkness" that you were expecting, there is still a lot to enjoy here. If you like music with an abundance of gripping, headbanging riffs, excellent solos, melodic hooks, infectious grooves, and memorable songs, you are sure to agree.

5 out of 5 stars These guys know what their doing!!.......2007-01-19

Abbath, was quoted as sayin," I had all these riffs layed down, but they would'nt have worked for Immortal at the time." So, we get "Between Two Worlds and I'm glad Abbath found a way to get those "riffs" out there. This imo, is an excellent rock/metal album. Quality musicianship, top production and songwriting. Arve Isdal(guitarist with Enslaved) plays on this and o e reason why I got this. Imo, Arve is really not appreciated in the metal world for his guitar virtuosity. One of the best working today. Pick this up!

4 out of 5 stars METAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR 2006.......2007-01-19

Superb Metal album!! At first I was put off by the commercial leanings of this album, expecting to hear IMMORTAL. But, after repeated listening, it grew on me in a big way. I should have given this 5 STARS!! So far it's the best Metal album I've heard from 2006.

Some are saying it's not IMMORTAL. Those IMMORTAL ripsaw power chords are there. Only they sound more mainstream. And the growling dark winter vocals and lyrics are there. It sounds like IMMORTAL to me. But, with a more straight ahead feel to the Metal. I think maybe Abbath is looking for a more commercial appeal to his sound. Black Metal is basically a fringe audience. When you can play this good, who wouldn't want to appeal to a bigger audience? It works for me in a big way. I love IMMORTAL. They're my second favorite Black Metal band next to EMPEROR. But, I love the direction Abbath is taking with this music. This is the best solid straight up Metal album I've heard in a long time. And I hope there's going to be more.

IMMORTAL lyrics and vocals, yes. BATHORY songs, yes.

MOTORHEAD? No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

I don't get the MOTORHEAD comparison. I love MOTORHEAD, but the only track that sounds even vaguely like MOTORHEAD is maybe THE STORM I RIDE. Maybe.

5 out of 5 stars Still great.......2007-04-21

This cd was given to me almost 7 years ago...and it's still as amazing as ever. I don't listen to that much trance anymore, but I still love this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Simply amazing.......2004-11-30

Trust me, this man and his work is truely inspiring. A wonderful piece of art. I liked the idea of two CDs and a different theme for them both and it is perfectly executed. A somewhat similar style to "moving melodies" in some tracks, but a new style in others (he continues to develop this style in future albums). If I had a complaint, it would be that one of the CDs is a little short (what can I say I'm addicted!)

1 out of 5 stars Techno Pop Crap.......2004-11-08

I had the misfortune of purchasing this CD. The reasons I don't like it are: It is entirely too simple. By that I mean its a beat and a melody. He may be a good DJ but his original music is left far behind. His overuse on the pitch modulation on the bass loops were driving me insane. Overall I just didn't like it at all. I listen to electronica all the time and I just couldn't feel this album at all.

5 out of 5 stars Another world another sound.......2004-04-10

First of all i would like to comment on all those that has been saying that this is a weak and boring album that it's not. ATB do sound diffrent from his first, here the majority of the songs are slow and not like "9PM" but they are less commercial too. Most songs are passioned with beautiful melodies, there surely are way to many songs included but there are loads of wonderful songs there. "The fields of love" "Engrossing Moments" and "The summer" are exellent and his "Let you go" with Wild Strawberries is not bad either, they are all superb relax songs. The great Heather Nova (2 songs) and Enigma are also feautured here, the result is a sensual and beautuful dance album. "Klagwent" is more of a electro song, "Timeless" is a mix of drums&bass and dance, like "Cabana Moon" on "Addicted to music" and the songs with Heathee Nova includes vocals obviously, so all songs are not slow relax songs but occasional fans that only liked the commercial "9pm" and simular songs should stay away from this cause it's diffrent from "Movin Melodies" that's not a bad thing though.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful album!.......2004-10-06

This is an essential new age album that you should not pass up. This was Patrick O'hearns best album before his new album surpassed it. This is probably Patricks most space oriented of his electronic albums to date. It's the dark electronic, rainy music that makes me love this album. Every song on here is a breakthrough for this extremely talented musician. Some songs I remember hearing when I was very young.
Rainmaker is a very haunting song with an intense misty atmosphere with some ceramic percussion. Sky Juice is a breathtaking song with very electronic synths and some jet sound effects with some thumping beats and a cool bass. However that is nothing like the next one. Cape Perpetual is beyond any word I can describe about this song. It's a very spooky track. It starts of with some strange breezy wind instruments and some thundering sounds in the distance. At about 30 seconds there are some synthesizer hums that fade in. The sound of the synth humming almost scared me at first listening. It then becomes a dark very space oriented song with ceramic percussion and thundering jet sound effects. I could close my eyes listening to this song and imagine myself traveling on the Orient Express through oriental space. This song alone makes this album a five star. Gentle Was The Night is a very beautiful song with just mostly synths. This is a great song. Fire Ritual is a very pop oriented song and some vocal doodling here and there. This is probably the brightest song on here. 87 Dreams Of A Lifetime lives up to the title. This is a very stunning and could rank as one of his best 80s tracks ever. It starts with just some ambient synths and the synths get louder and at about a minute into the song the real music begins. This is a haunting song with a catchy rhythm and a space jazzy stmosphere. This is my second favorite off this album. Dimension D is a very space oriented song with some haunting sound effects and a very dark ambient atmosphere. Forever The Optimistic is a pop oriented song with great electronic bass, a great hook and some synth tinklings throughout the song. I almost cryed when I first heard this song and today I consider this song a new age classic. Journey To Yoroba is another haunting song. It has lots of ceramic percussion and ambient synths. I love the drum loop to this song. The closing title track is great with more great synths and cool drums.

All in all I rank this album as one Mr. O'Hearns strongest masterpieces to date.

It's hard to really say how much I love this album because it really stimulates imagination in a way that none of his other albums can.

In fact this album for a time is almost like the soundtrack my high school years because it reflects lonely I feel sometimes. In fact I strongly recommend this album to all who love music to listen to while thinking. It's very intelligent music that should be enjoyed by all generations.

Well that's all I can say.

Bye!Bye!

5 out of 5 stars Best Of Two Worlds/The Soul Children=Best Two Albums By The Soul Children.......2007-03-01

Stax records in Memphis had more than a handfull of doo wop groups. The Soul Children were the best of the bunch. They were unique because any of the group members could sing lead as well as backgound. The combination of Isaac Hayes compositions and musical arrangements and vocal performances of Blackfoot and company was a winning sonic proposition. These two albums represent the early to mid lifespan of the Soul Children at Stax combining exceptionally soulful tracks recorded in Memphis and in Detroit. These are the two greatest albums by this group, two of the best albums Stax Records ever put out.

4 out of 5 stars Music for the Soul.......2007-02-20

The CD for the group Soul Children is excellent. Music that really sing about Love and Pain. Recommend it to anyone who knows the ups and downs of love.

5 out of 5 stars I'll Understand.......2000-07-17

This CD may be a little before my time, but during the 70's, The Soul Children, as they say now, was the boom, I grew up listening to R&B and Jazz. This is definitely an old school mix. This is one that will bring back memories.

5 out of 5 stars Charles Lloyd on the rise.......2004-02-26

Without a doubt this is one of the all time great sixties era jazz albums by Chico Hamilton and his then young, songwriter and reed man, Charles Lloyd. Charles Lloyd, a much underrated tenor sax player, writes all the compositions including possibly his best known composition, "Forest Flower . " Going through my extensive, alphabetical order LP collection recently, I made notes of which to find on CD and immediately added this disc to my digital collection; I couldn't be more pleased. With the adition of four tracks taken from "Passin Thru" the sonic face lift results in a reworking of some classic jazz. Another featured artist is the Hungarian born Gabor Zsabo whose tone on guitar is unmistakable with it's fluidity and expressive style. Both Lloyd(now on ECM) and Zsabo(see "Spellbinder") went on to solo careers but this is a disc on which they cut their collective teeth. The opening and title track, "Man From Two Worlds" is introduced with a bass line followed by an eerie, haunting guitar that sounds similar to the guitar introduction from "The End" by the Doors which was used in "Apocalypse Now. " Charles Lloyd soon enters with his fine tenor sax work, playing counter to the other instruments on another channel for a remarkable effect. All of the songs are outstanding but I am impartial to "Forest Flower" as I have several different versions of the melodic sunrise and sunset tune. No matter how many times you have heard this song you can never get tired of it. This particular version has a depth of it's own with the clarity and strumming of guitar by Zsabo in the tenor breaks before Lloyd resumes his mastery and impeccable exploration of the beauty of his horn. The song is 10 minutes long and as you listen you will feel the good vibe that cascades and playfully bounces along in transition from sunrise to sunset, taking you on a musical journey that you will want to experience again and again. Although it is Chico Hamilton's group it is the talent of Charles Lloyd that carries the disc into the category of being a classic disc from the past. Naturally the leadership and driving rhythms by Chico Hamilton contribute heavliy to the success of this disc but credit must also be given to two giants of the recording industry on Impulse, producer Bob Thiele and recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder. Thiele and Van Gelder's original work make for the remastering to sound even better. The audio quality is outstanding and sounds even more amazing on headphones. If you are new to jazz try this disc from 1963 that has been rejuvenated and brought to the digital format for your listening pleasure. If you are updating your old collection don't hesitate to put this at the top of your list. Recommended for jazz purists who like their jazz straight with no chaser.

5 out of 5 stars This is my second favorite jazz CD of all time -.......1999-12-21

Number 1 is "Blue Train". "Blue Train" is my favorite album because it contains the greatest tenor sax solo ever recorded, Trane on the title cut. "Man From Two Worlds" contains the second greatest saxophone solo ever recorded, Charles Lloyd on "Forest Flower".

Somehow, Lloyd, one of the most original players on the jazz scene, has an undeserved reputation as being a Coltrane clone. Lloyd not only has a totally original and easily identifiable concept on the sax, he also creates a totally unique soundscape in which to play his solos. This CD is a good example, it is pianoless, and features Gabor Szabo on guitar. All the compositions are by Lloyd.

Everything about the CD is outstanding. The tunes are great. "Forest Flower", on a different recording, made Lloyd famous in the sixties. "Blues Medley" is the most 'radio ready' jazz tune I've ever heard, though I've never heard it on the radio! The sonority that Lloyd and Szabo achieve is unmatched by any other band, it is sophisticated but light. The band's swing is exceptional due to Hamilton's drumming, which seems to dance on every cut.

Everything worked on this CD. Great musicians playing at the limit. Lloyd's sax on "Forest Flower" is phenomenal, a maelstrom of notes that lay out a fantastic melody.

This CD was recorded in sixties. After a long absence from playing, Lloyd returned (in the late eighties?) and is recording on ECM. He hasn't lost it.

Melding jazz and classical music has been attempted with varying degrees of success by luminaries from George Gershwin to Miles Davis to The MJQ; even Grover Washington took a shot at it shortly before his passing. It is hard to discern much jazz in Grusin and Ritenour's venture, unless it is to bring out the implied swing in Bach's Concerto in A Minor for Four Keyboards and Strings, or a propensity for "smooth jazz" romanticism in some melodies and lush string arrangements. They do offer a varied program including some impassioned Bartók (featuring violinist Gil Shaham) and some sprightly Spanish dances courtesy of composer Manuel de Falla The high point, though, is soprano Renee Fleming's performance of "Cantilena" from Villa Lobos's "Bachianas Brasilieras," which proves as ethereal and haunting as its subject matter--the moon. Fleming also reveals a surprising soulfullness and unexpected feel for jazz phrasing in her performances of "The Water Is Wide" and "Shenandoah." In the end, it is she who truly brings the two worlds together. --Michael Ross

4 out of 5 stars Jazz Fanatics are just tooooooooo cool!.......2005-07-07

There's nothing like the pompous opinion of a Jazz elitist that serves quite as well for being a reverse barometer for something I'll be inclined to enjoy. No wonder Jazz suffers from such little wide-spread acceptance in this country when those who claim to be fans are so quick to criticize anything that either doesn't fall under the highly interpretive definition of it or ventures into other realms. Is this a Jazz album? NO! Is this a Classical album? NO! Is this an album of well-performed classically-influenced music that is pleasing to listen to and doesn't make you feel as if you're being stabbed in the forehead with an ice pick? YES! By the way, Dave Grusin is the pianist, not Bob James!

5 out of 5 stars Admirable heartfelt rendition!.......2005-05-16

The profound sincerity of Dave Grusin is one of his most notable qualities as human being. From time he as Sting, turns around to the classic mood and decides to put a sand's grain for proving the distance in musical genres is just in the mind.
The presence of Lee Ritenour, Julian Lloyd Weber, Gil Shaham and Renee Flemming so confirms it.
The tune trowel covers a wide spectrum. From Spain Moreno Torroba the master composer of so many overwhelming works such Spain Castles for instance, Don Manuel de Falla who elevated the Apennines Mountains with his Three Cornered Hat or El Amor brujo and Federico Mompou to the great Hungarian composer Bela Bartok , from Fritz Kreisler to Johann Sebastian Bach. The transcriptions are excellent and even maintain the authentic spirit. The best piece of the CD to my mind is Bartok's transcription Rumanian Folk Dances. Grusin kept the passion and profound noblesse of the score.
We all knew about his famous album dedicated to George Gershwin's memory in 1993, sand that' s why I am not so surprised by this musical tribute to this supreme universe. As a smooth breeze, surrounded and supported by pleasant harmonies. This album could become in the true for any jazz lover to incursion in the universe of the classics
Personally I really expect Grusin from time to time, make another superb arrangements. Imagine for instance Mendelssohn's Venetian Gondola, Grieg's Holberg Suite or Brahms ` Intermezzo Op. 117 No. 5, Samuel Barber's adagio, or Bocherini's Fandango.
It's good to remind Hubert Laws has to his own, another superb arrangements in the far seventies as Starvinsky's Le sacre and the famous adaptation of Tchaikovsky `s Romeo and Juliet or Ravel's Forlane from Couperin's grave, that meant for him a Special Award in 1976.
Bravo Mr. Grusin for this artistic recording

    2 out of 5 stars nearly good.......2005-04-10

This was a great idea - a very good one. It opens all of our eyes to the possibilities of chamber arrangements.

And some of the arrangements are very very cool, but I have a few issues with this CD. I have not heard any other CDs of Lee Ritenour, but know he's a Jazz guitarist right? Call me a traditionalist, but I can tell the difference straight away. You can't put a classical guitar in front of a jazz dude and expect miracles. Or in this case, anything. The tone is very bad from lee's hands, and the mix has left his guitar sound even more wanting - quiet and lifeless.

And whats with the super crisp percussion over some of the tracks? I see what these guys are trying to do, but it doesn't work for me. Great repertoire, but interpretation is a bit lacking - and dare I say - a touch uneducated.

That said, stand in performances from fleming, shaham and lloyd webber are great and dave grusin's piano playing (whilst being completely unothodox in some places) is solid and interestingly configured.

If I was the producer for this CD, I would do a lot of things differently: but in doing so I'd probably change the target market from being a Jazz/pop classical/easy listening market to a market that enjoys classy playing and interpretation of new arrangements for chamber groups.

So as a traditionalist, I'm not a fan of this CD. If you're one too, beware.

4 out of 5 stars Just an approach to classical music.......2005-04-10

The disc wasn't released for Jazz lovers. It is a collection of beautiful classical pieces played with little (sometimes without) improvisation, respecting the melodies and its harmony. I would only recommend this disc if you are a Grusin/Ritenour fan and like classical music. You will surely spend a great time listening the tracks, any time you are in the mood to listen some Bartok, de Falla or Bach.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is incredible.......2001-10-09

I have been a Ritenour fan for 5-6 years, mainly from the group Fourplay, although I do own 2-3 of his solo cd's. I also love classical so I purchased this cd as an experiment. I cannot put it down! The balance between Jazz and Classical is perfect. Neither comes through too strong but just right! I would recommend this cd to anyone, but get ready for so emotions as the perfromances by Fleming will bring tears to your eyes.
