4 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation - Just Not Technically a Chill Out CD.......2006-01-15

'Chill' is a technically a dance track track that unwinds you as the sun is coming up and the DJ wants to ease you into the morning. It must have a beat - otherwise, it's not a chill out track.

The term has been lifted by others to mean anything meditative, new age, world, soft, etc ... so while this is a fine compilation, it is not really a chill out CD.

One disc is actually a fine collection of Trip Hop/near Gao Trance tracks and it's mostly Indian (hence the Gao) but that doesn't really matter, it's solid trip-hop but it's misleading to label anything with vocals in another language 'chill' but I guess it's easier to sell than New Age/World or Trip Hop.

The other disc is also fine (mostly) Indian tracks with some Spanish tracks that is a nice collection of solid tracks but it is most definitely not chill - but again, they didn't want to scare people by labeling it 'world' music which is what it really is.

So, if you're looking for true 'chill' dance tracks - these discs aren't it. If you want some pretty solid trip hop tracks performed by non-English artists, one of the disc will make you happy. If you like to broaden your music horizons, the other disc is fine collection of interesting 'world' tracks so really just minus some stars for trying to mislead you.

1 out of 5 stars This is the worst Chill Out compilation I've heard.......2004-07-17

If this music is considered Chill Out, then apparently David Visan changed the definition of the genre and didn't tell the rest of the world. How french of him! I don't know WHAT this music is. It was either so dull, it bored me to tears, or it was so annoying that I just skipped right through the tracks. I MUCH MORE recommend Stephane Pompougnac's Hotel Costes series, which sounds like ambience meets Edith Piaf (awesome!) and any of the Cafe del Mar series mixed by Jose Padilla (volumes 1 -6). Chill Out in Paris 2 was a total bust and I regret even having bought it.

could there ever be a better chill out collection? the answer is NO WAY!!! just lay down and close your eyes while listeniny to that great mix of Arabic and Spanish rythems. Let the music take you there. Enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars Different but not good chill out.......2004-01-06

When I saw the CD first, I had great expectations. This cd is different than other chill out cd, i accept that. The cd has diversity in it and different tones and rthyms. If you want to listen to some strange music, this cd is good for you. but if we look at it as a chill out cd, i would not recommend it to you. Ministry of Sound's Chillout Sessions , Pompougnac's Hotel Costes cds are much better than this one. For archieve, it is a good cd to have anyways.

5 out of 5 stars Five stars doesn't cover it........2002-12-25

David Visan's "Buddha Bar IV" and first "Chillout in Paris" compilation were, to my ear, uneven at best, displays of a wide range of material from the sublime to the uninspired to the downright horrible. But take it from a listener who's addicted to world/chillout music, and who is always seeking out my next, new "fix": "Chill Out in Paris 2" is without a question the ABSOLUTE BEST CD I own of this genre. It surpasses any of my favorites from the "Hotel Costes" and "Cafe del Mar" series. In fact, the only recording that stands up to "Chill Out in Paris 2" is the over-the-moon masterpiece, "Buddha Bar 1" by Claude Challe.

Put this CD in your system and you'll be on a vacation that Alice in Wonderland would envy. Buy it, you can't go wrong. Any of the reviewers who gave this aural gem less than five-stars is simply not a fan of this style of music. Superb, utterly original selections, recorded, mixed and blended beyond perfection.

5 out of 5 stars Go for it!!.......2002-12-03

This is a great collection. This is one of the first CD's of 'chill out music I purchased a few months ago. I bought this largely on the basis of the packaging ( I figured with the amount of production value it had to be at least decent) and the san carlos 1973 label ( a fashion house), which I had some familiarity with.
Well, I have been greatly rewarded.
Do you know when you buy a CD and it just grabs you immediately, and you think that you have heard all the music before, but of course you haven't because it is new music?
Well, that is how I felt upon first listen. The collection starts with more mellow music in the "love category" and becomes more dance like under the second CD called "hate."
I truly love the songs including the "time goes by" (Rolling Stones) cover on the first CD.
I played this at a Thanksgiving party and everyone loved this music: "what is this?"; "where did you get this?" etc. I took this to Maui, and every time I listen to it now it seems like a soundtrack to my trip there.
It is one of my favorite CD's for the last few months and I am sure you will like it too.
The collection has a bit of a Middle Eastern influence, but, man, it is very intoxicating. I don't understand the other review being so negative because so many people who hear this collection ( a constant spin at my house) really enjoy it.

I would recommend this CD to you. If my further purchases indicate anything, I just bought the first collection and I hope it is just as good.

2 out of 5 stars "Chill out in Baghdad"?.......2002-08-09

Chill out in paris is nothing more than a nicely design package. It has an inviting title but would people still buy this cd if it was name "CHILL OUT IN BAGHDAD"?. This album should NOT be file under "Chill out" but rather "NEW AGE". Most of these artists on the cd are like YANNI or ENYA but only unknow. If you consider Enya's music is chill out than i guess this cd is for you.

I am not TRASHING this cd. I am just telling you that it is MISLEADING cd. I do like middle eastern music influence in the chill out scence like TALVIN SINGH or Bardmarsh&Schri. Or that song, Cleopatra in NEW York from the Hotel Costes compilation. Those songs work well with the eastern flavor. But CHILL OUT IN PARIS sound is sooooooo cheesy. When I listen to this cd it gives me GOOSEBUMP, not the good goosebump cause it's emotional but cause it is CHEESY.

Well I spent 10 bucks for the "Chill out inp aris 2" cause it is a promotional cd. But it is still a waste of money. For those people who listens to Kruder&Dormiester, Dimitri from paris, Paris Lounge, Hotel Costes, or even the commercial Ultra Chilled, dont expect to get the kind of chill out you want in this CD. Save your money chill out freaks, hipsters, pretentious snobs. But do buy if you like Enya or Yanni.
