worst album ever.......2006-05-14
I won't say too much bout this stuff, but the first word which come to mind is RUBBISH. and it truely is. the production and all the songs are so weak, that you won't get temper to get it to the end upon first listen. but what is even worse that second listen will never come. So, if you wannna spend 20 bucks or so on quality import music, you'd better try Kym Marsh "Standing Tall" or Anastacia latest compilation "Pieces Of a Dream". Enjoy and don't be fooled by sweet looks on the front cover. Just read her lips: PLEASE, DON'T BUY ME!!!!!!!
Luscious Pop and then some.......2006-03-10
I first heard of Sophie while watching TV in Poland on vacation few years ago. The video for "Murder on the Dance Floor" came on and I was instantly enchanted. It was such a cute, ultra-cool disco tune, with catchy music, and Bextor herself had this porcelain skin, glowing pink cheeks and a fabulous green eye shadow. She was so fresh and so different that I fell for her charm instantly! So far I own all of her music but this is the CD you have to have! As her first solo project this little shiny disc is a pearl in the sea of bad music. I mean its hard to get excited when I'm so picky about music, and when so much of it out there is only semi interesting, therefore I don't review a lot of it, I simply don't have time to go on and on make something lukewarm sound appealing. This one is effortlessly lovely. I cannot praise it enough, and I think that UK comes out with some great dance and pop.
Even though Sophie is an ex model, her voice is so unique and beautiful that I know she is more than a pretty face. She really has pure talent that needs to be heard. Her music is fun, really unique, the melodies are all fabulous and I can listen to this CD over and over. I don't think I can ever get bored of it, and I have absolutely loved it since 2002 and 4 years later I am not even remotely tired of it. Her songs here are not all dance or ballads, they are so unique they are almost hard to describe. They are bit disco, electronica, synthesizers, pop and dance.
By the way "Murder on the Dance floor" will make you want to dance. I put it on when I'm in a funk, really loud and it cheers me up. Download the video and watch it, it will make the song even better.
This CD is something great to put on while you're having a party, or listening to it on your iPod while skipping in the rain, while driving in the car with the top down and letting sunshine bathe you, while relaxing or simply when you want some nice fresh tunes. Her music is cool, simple as that and I am positive she will have continuous success.
Glamorous pop..........2005-08-15
...is probably the best term I can come up with to describe this album. Sophie Ellis-Bextor's songs with the smart lyrics (and that gorgeous voice!) will make you want to strut down the street feeling all sultry.
Crisp, clear and witty pop........2005-06-20
Ms Ellis Bextor has given pop a new lease of life.
She introduces and balladic, anthem like appeal to poppy catchy tunes and is more than a little inspired by 50's show tunes and 50's and 60's pop (watch some old Cliff Richard films if you don't get my meaning-I suggest "Summer Holiday"); her image is more than a little British 50's glamour puss too!
Her lyrics are witty and wry and seem very subtly supportive of a feminist stance, interestingly and rarely she also sings with a clear, crisp, British, almost BBC (circa 1955)accent.
Intersting stuff which breathes life into a genre that has become tired and predictable lately.
Slick, fun Euro-pop.......2005-04-09
Sophie Ellis-Bextor is sort of like Kylie Minogue's less famous, more edgy, 2nd cousin. After the first couple of listens, tracks like "Murder on the Dance Floor", "Get Over You"(my favorite), "Music Gets The Best of Me" and "By Chance" stand-out immediately as pleasurable dance music that sticks in your brain. However, after several other listens, tracks like "Universe Is You" (where she sounds like a 21st century Debbie Harry), "Is It Any Wonder" (reminiscent of Dido and Jem) and the live track "If This Ain't Love" surface as proof that Ellis-Bextor is more than just a vapid pop dance Diva.
She has the chops to back it up and the original delivery to make more than just a passing mark on the music scene. Here's hoping the music industry takes more notice.

DAM IT FEE.......2006-09-22
1 HAVE A LOVE HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THIS ALBUM - i LOVE IT BECAUSE IT IS SO GOOD-I HATE IT BECAUSE IT SIGNIFIED THE ENDING OF THE TUBES THE MUSIC ON THIS ALBUM SOUNDS LIKE THE TUBES BUT WE KNOW IT ISN'T IT IS THE VOCALS OF FEE WAYBILL WITHOUT THE OTHERS -STILL A GOOD LP -FAREWELL MY BELOVED TUBES
Get in touch with your soul.......2005-03-22
I also had this album for many years on a chrome-cassette, but for some years now, not; I threw it away together with my cassette player and that was a huge mistake! Luckily, Amazon have the album on CD nowadays. Fee Waybill really created an outstanding album-composition with "Read my Lips". This album is unique and not just another mainstream production. Theese tunes will catch your soul and carry you on wings of love away to paradise.
Fee + Toto = GREAT MUSIC.......2003-05-15
Most of Toto is here with Fee and some writing by Richard Marx. Sure, this LP killed the Tubes group (see my Love Bomb review for the details) but Fee sure put out a gem! The music is very catchy and well performed. It has a very 80s sound, but still beats the pants off of most of today's new releases. Every time I play this CD for someone I am consistently asked who the artist is and where did I get the CD. So get yours too!
Read My Lips: One of the 80's best discs!.......2002-10-30
This is probably some of the best music to come out in the 80's that you've never heard of.
"Read My Lips" is Tube's frontman Fee Waybill's first solo effort. With the help of producer David Foster, and most of the band Toto backing him up, Waybill hits a homerun in his first at bat.
The first track, "You're Still Laughing" is a in your face rocking song followed by Toto's Steve Lukather great guitar riffs leads into the second track "Nobody's Perfect"
A good chunk of the album is written by Waybill, Lukather and Foster and track three is co-written by then unknown artist Richard Marx. The music ranges from Rock, Pop and even a little Caribbean flavor on the track aptly titled "Caribbean Sunsets". I like all 10 tracks on this cd. It's just like knarly dude!
All you 80's music fans out there who want to find out what you missed back twenty years ago, pick this disc up.
Darn near perfect.......2000-01-20
I bought this album when it was first released in 1984. I wore out two copies of the cassette, didn't have a copy for years, then nearly pee'd my pants when i found the CD a couple of years ago. This record has a mid-80's feel to it, but strangely enough doesn't really sound dated. This is the record i have probably listened to more times than any other record/CD i have ever owned. It is "rock and roll" enough to satisfy, and also has some very catchy Pop sensibility. Plus, Fee is one of the great rock vocalists, period. His 1996 release "Don't Be Scared By These Hands", while not as uniformly pleasing as "Read My Lips", packs enough humor and melodiousness to merit purchasing.

Austin's Lou Ann Barton displays her sassy blowtorch blues style splendidly on her third recording, on which she receives assistance from friends and former bandmates such as Kim Wilson, David "Fathead" Newman, and current duet partner Jimmie Vaughan (Do You Get the Blues). But Barton, a past member of both Roomful of Blues and an early edition of Stevie Ray Vaughan's band, doesn't really need much help; her amazingly rich, blues-drenched voice is a musical force of nature. Whether using it on a sizzling remake of Slim Harpo's "Shake Your Hips," digging deep into Irma Thomas's Crescent City classic ballad "It's Raining," or energizing "High Time We Went," Barton saturates her sound with raw emotion and unerring blues sensibilities. Even semi-novelty numbers like Lazy Lester's bayou funk standard "Sugar Coated Love" and the tough-woman anthem "You Can Have My Husband" somehow seem more substantial. She further accentuates her no-nonsense image with superlative takes on Barbara Lynn's "You'll Lose a Good Thing" and renegade country legend Wanda Jackson's "Mean, Mean Man." --Michael Point

WOW! Wanda Jackson 25 years later!!.......2007-05-02
This is just great, great stuff. Are you sure this isn't Wanda Jackson's illegitmate daughter? If you like blues and rockabilly it doesn't get any better than this in this day and age. If you don't like this CD--you just don't like music!
Lady Sings The Blues.......2007-04-09
I bought this one on vinyl when it first came out and have been listening to it regularly ever since. This is one fine blues album and a must for any serious blues collection. I was lucky enough to see Lou Ann at Antone's in Austin back in the early 90's and she "smoked". She had much the same band then as on this album; the great but unheralded Derek O'Brien on guitar, George Rains on drums and Reese Wynans on keys. The material on this album is top notch, covering swamp blues, soul, R&B and texas blues. This album is right up there with any, yes any, blues album released in the last 25 years; I kid you not. It is a real shame that Lou Ann didn't record a follow-up but there's still time as most of the participants are still alive and active, except the late, great Clifford Antone and the late, exceptionally great Doug Sahm. Lou Ann is now Jimmie Vaughan's main squeeze (well, she was a year or so ago) and sings in his ripper band; she deserves much more on all accounts!! Come on Lou Ann, give us another one just like the other one.
A Little Bit of Austin While Driving in Your Car.......2007-02-28
After a long wait, I finally was able to see Ms. Barton perform with Jimmy Vaughn's band during the Summer 2006 Bob Dylan minor baseball stadium tour. I had purchased this record on vinyl, but I had not listened to it in years. Coming back to it was a real treat. Her voice is strong and sassy. The record is loaded with Austin guitar players (including Denny Freeman who now plays with Dylan), and the players sound like a real band, not just a bunch of guys putting together a studio album. So, if you cannot make it to Austin, or if you are on your way there, play this record and feel the blues.
One of the best!.......2004-09-28
I have had this album since it can out and it has always been one of my absolute favorites. The singing is as good as it gets and the band is top notch. Check out the guitars solos by Jimmie Vaughan on Sugar Coated Love and Ti Ni Nee Ni Nu, Derek O'Brian on You Can Have My Husband and David Grissom on Shake Your Hips. If you want to know what a blues band should sound like, this is IT! I wish this same line up would get together and record something new.
A Solid Effort.......2002-04-25
A very good effort from Lou Ann Barton. I had never heard of her before a friend in college at the University of Boston turned me on to her. This CD moves from slower blues to rhythm and blues with a very strong common demoninator, which is Lou Ann's voice. Very strong and hypnotizing. Her voice pulls you in and wraps you in a cacoon.
A very good introduction to Lou Ann Barton. I can't wait to get more and see what else she is up to.

Customer Reviews:
Fun album.......2007-03-09
This album was recommended to me by someone who had lived in Europe, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. This CD is really good, not even just a couple of tracks. Very "pop" but entertaining.
Really Enjoyable.......2006-06-24
We used to have a fantastic dance (radio) station in the Dallas area that played Sophie's tunes...sadly, it got overrun by hip/hop & latino music. At any rate, when I found this CD online over a year later, I knew I had to have it. It took almost 2 weeks to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. Murder on the Dance Floor is the best song on the CD, but tracks 2, 3, 8 & 13 follow closely. Sophie has a beautiful voice that really compliments the music. If you are a fan of techno/dance music, I highly recommend you add this album to your CD Collection.
For the genre, it's fantastic!.......2003-07-07
This sultry European import will delight dance music fans. She manages to be contemporary, while honoring/throwing back to the times of both disco and techno. Thoroughly enjoyable & sexy.
Top 10 Euro Dancebeat Album.......2003-02-07
While I was touring through Europe last summer, this album could be heard blaring out of most any club, most any car-stereo, and for good reason; it's no-frills, well-produced, perfectly disposible dancefloor eurodisco that still sounds melodic, and won't urge you to kick the speakers down after listening to it.
What really got me is SEB's vocal delivery; like the Backstreet Boys first few albums, the beats are perfectly suited to her sultry (and very British) voice, and the production is flawless--Nile Rodgers, eat your heart out.
It's not breaking any new ground, but with killer singles like "Murder On The Dancefloor" and "Get Over You", it doesn't have to be.
Another excellent artist.......2002-07-11
This has to be one of the best albums ever. All the songs have good beats and they are all great to dance to. Her single murder on the dancefloor reached number 3 in the Australian single charts until it went down. Get over you is not on this album but you can still buy it on single in record stores or on her Read my lips (+3 tracks). The +3 edition has groovejet(if this ain't love) feat. DJ Spiller. Another great song. Sophie Ellis Bextor's 'Read my lips' is excellent for all ages and has great songs. You'll be reading her lips!!!!!!!

Felicia Adams is a gifted singer/songwriter who debuted on the scene back in the mid 90's with an infectious single entitled "Thinking About You." Since then, she has been writing for other artists such as Soul 4 Real and Donnell Jones. A decade later, she has returned with a full length album that will satisfy any lover of good r&b music. Standout cuts are "Hello" "You" and "Only You". Her debut single "Thinking About You" is also included. Her music is along the sames lines of early Mary J. Blige and Faith Evans. This album is a rare gem since its not even released here in the states yet. So pick this one up. It's definately worth the price.

Jimmy is incredible.......2005-09-03
Jimmy Somerville has a voice like no one on the planet. Haunting and beautiful. I've loved his music for years and finally got to meet him in person. It was so nice to see what a kind person he is, too. If you want to hear music that will make you feel like you can move mountains, buy every one of his albums.
Best POP Singer in the world.......2000-03-15
I think he is one of the greatest entertainers in the world. Just listen to his voice and you will hear hard work and skill and natural born talent. No one ever has gripped your soul with feelings and inventive melodies. This is an album for every collector.

Quality.......2004-10-01
This wonderful CD single offers tracks that were not on either of the Katydids' two albums. "Lights Out" is a fun guitar rock song from their self-titled debut, produced by Nick Lowe, but the other tracks are just as good. "Another August Night" conjures the murky atmosphere it describes beautifully and hauntingly. "Disappointed" is a superb fast song that I have never forgotten, which pokes fun in its quiet way at the music industry and rabid rock fans looking for messages. If you are familiar with any of the Katydids' other work, you will definitely want to add this single to your collection for the great extra tracks. If you've never heard of the band, and many haven't, then give 'em a try- they deserve another listen.

worst album ever.......2006-05-14
