5 out of 5 stars Sun Drenched Once Again.......2006-03-01

Nothing like the having the latest in this Great series of sound. Just like the first, these tunes take me back to the first time my wife and I heard them while dining at the coolest of cool restaurants in Cairns, Australia. Sun Drenched Baby!

3 out of 5 stars It's a business, not a disco !!.......2005-09-20

The Beach House collections have suffered over the years, the deep house sound that defined it has more or less dissappeared, lately being replaced with watered down pop tracks that could easily have been album tracks for mainstream artists (not neccessarily bad). It's understandable also, when you have dead lines to meet and when record companies like Naked Music isn't churning them out fast enough you have little choice but to use old (but still beautiful) tracks like Lisa Shaw's "Let it ride", Aquanote's "Nowhere" and Kandi favourite Afterlife with "Never before" here. The obvious highlights here are: Aya's "Sean", Kaskade's "Everything" and Late Night Alumni's "Nothing left to say". I'm excited about their new album of the same name, the dreamy vocal deep house which they're known for.

I want to also say that I admire Mark Doyle for his taste in music as much as being a business man. The way he milked his product is unmatched by any of his peers. I agree that during the last couple of years Hed Kandi's become just a bit too commercial, realising CD after CD in 2004/2005, wasn't this the exact thing they set out to oppose when they started out ? Even TV commercials in the UK !! But Mark Doyle knew it couldn't go on forever so grabbed as much money as possible even meaning filling CDs up with some substandard stuff, and good for him too I would do the same thing ! And what perfect timing - in the sleeve notes on this album, Mark Doyle said this would be his last album (probably meaning that he's sold his Hed Kandi project off and made loads of money), so as of the next collection onwards i.e. 'Hed Kandi 50' we'll be getting music that are being complied by 'The Hed Kandi Team'. The future collections have yet to be heard, but looks like the early Kandi magic will continue to be compromised due to commercial reasons.

5 out of 5 stars Hot Summer Nights.......2005-09-11

Like the reviewer below, I was surprised to find that this entry in the Beach Houses series was much different than ones in the past. It's still great though! It's got a more chilled out feel to it, for poolside listening, or just laying around. There's definately some highlights. The second disc picks up with a few dance numbers. Old favorites like Bonnie Bailey, Kaskade, Stonebridge, Late Night Alumni, Peyton and more make appearances on this two disc set.

5 out of 5 stars A whole new genre of Beach House!.......2005-08-10

I'll admit I was a little surprised when I first put this into my CD player. As an avid Hed Kandi fan and very partial to the Beach House series I was expected another hot dancey house mix of beach tunes, what I got was real mellow, almost chill out beach tunes! This was a surprise, but it didn't take long for me to realize how much I loved the change. These songs still have rhythm, they still are perfect for listening to while getting a tan or splashing at the beach, but without the pulsing beats.

"A New Start" and "Undone" are definately some of the more relaxing tunes from the first CD, with the latter being tranquil enough to put you in sun-kissed slumber. Now don't compare these songs to the Winter Chill series or even Served Chill because they do have bass, but it is light enough to provide a relaxing, exquisite summer by-the-pool experience.

CD2 appears like it might gain energy with tracks by such dance artists as Stonebridge and Aya, but actually it's just as mellow as the first disk. Some of my favorites songs on this CD are "Back To Us" "Everything (Big Room Mix)" and "Nothing Left to Say" by the fabulous Late Night Alumni. "In My Arms" is also a kinda fun song that includes samples from the old hit "Betty Davis Eyes"

I couldn't say this is the best of the Beach House series just because it's so different from the others. Although I will say that I enjoyed every single song on this one, whereas I would often skip to the "stand-outs" on the previous Beach House compilations.

5 out of 5 stars Great Summer Tunes.......2007-07-16

This CD is awesome. I haven't even made it to the second disc yet! I would recommend this CD for great summer listening!

4 out of 5 stars Beach house .......2005-05-25

BEACH HOUSE is one of my favorite collections from Hed Kandi (hell I like most of them!). This entry in the series is a memorable one for me. Once again we have house songs with a latin soul to them. Really makes you wish you were on a beach. Don't worry my friend just close your eyes and Hed Kandi will take you there with this release! It has some of my favorite tracks, some really memorable house songs that are perfect for any summer day, or any time!

Etherfox's "The Whirled You Live" pops out right away as a standout. Volta's "Never Been Kissed", The Roc Project and Tina Arena's "Never (Past Tense)" are also great. Fac 15 and Cathi Ogden return again on this compilation with "Blue Skies". Kaskade's "Feeling The Night", Bonnie Bailey's "Safe", Ananda Project feat Hether Jonston on "Kiss Kiss Kiss", are all other great tracks.

So pop it in, close your eyes and let your mind go. Perfect for parties too!

5 out of 5 stars absolutely intoxicating.......2004-06-03

iv just recently acquired a copy. im not even done absorbing the whole disc1, thats because im outright infatuated with disc2. late night alumni's empty streets, beautiful and bittersweet. glider's riding high, picks you up and soars to the roof of your mouth. volta's never been kissed, oozing with suuugaaaar! papp's your life, releases those endorphins!
this album is not fine exotic chocolate. its the local brand (and spiked with liquor) that youll always love coz it reminds you of youthful emotion.

2 out of 5 stars Gooey vocals on the first misstep of this excellent series.......2004-01-12

The Beach House series has long been the most popular and successful of Hed Kandi's numerous full-length, unmixed 12"singles collections. The formula remains the same: two dozen tunes over two discs, in equal parts dazzling hits, filler pieces and duds for you to cherry pick.

Beach House 4.03 is their first misstep, lacking memorable tunes that spark a rewind. The summer vibes and light percussive sounds still appear, but a far heavier emphasis on sugary (to the point of gooey-excessive) lyrics clog the stereo. Worst offenders? Ananda Project's "Kiss Kiss Kiss," with that as the chorus and Q-Burns companion piece "This Time." Not to be outdone, there's frilly vocoder itinerary "Getaway,' and an auto pilot Miguel Migs with "Moving On."

Lost in the shuffle, guitar dub "Floating" from DJ Aguy and soft disco number "Follow the Night" via Kaskade manage some respite. On disc two, Etherfox's hard piano stabs and "be-bah-ahp-a-tha" chorus will have you humming for days on "The Whirled You Live."

But that's not much to offer for listeners. Hed Kandi knows how to pick tunes with sun-spotted charm, but in this case an ear for instrumentals would have served better.

5 out of 5 stars You can't avoid to love it.......2004-01-07

I heard Hen Kandi music for the 1st time in a trendy disco of southern spain, and it was love at first sight. Went on Amazon and bought this CD mainly for a song, "The whirled you live" that along is worth the price. But the compilation is AWESOME. Great extended mixes, ideal if you want to play with them, great sound, wonderful tracks like "kiss kiss kiss". A MUST! Thanks to the others for rewiewing it as good as I discovered!

The definitive summer album!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best beach house compilation.......2005-01-04

This is my favorite compilation in the Beach House series from Hed Kandi. It is hard trying to find a weak track among the 22 spread out over two discs here. It's a nice collection of soulful house music that has a latin vibe to it. Perfect to listen any time of the year, not limited just to summer time. Favorites include Octave One's "Black Water", Julius Papp. Feat Gina Rene on "A Thousand Years", Lazy Grace's reworking of the Bee Gees' "How Deep Is Your Love", Miguel Migs "Brand New Day", and more. Great compilation that should have a place in every dance music collection!

5 out of 5 stars Best Beach House Compilation Yet.......2002-12-31

I am by no means a house music connosieur. However, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that this a great compilation. Sexy, soulful house ranging from latin-influenced to disco-influenced and everything in between. The first CD is more mellow... advertised as music to listen to by the poolside. The second CD is more upbeat and danceable, perfect for getting ready for a big night out.

Standout tracks include "How Deep Is Your Love", "Lazy", "Con Migo", "So Right" and "Black Water". I hadn't heard any of the songs from this album until I picked it up (I come from Calgary- the land of rival hip-hop soundcrews battling for club space with rednecks after all!) but there are none that I skip through when listening to the CDs. This is the perfect soundtrack for a long drive, a long day, or a long night!

4 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars for sugary-sweet vocal house and disco.......2002-11-02

What is it?
Deep, sugary-sweet vocal house on one disc, disco on the other, all in unmixed form for this, the third installment of increasingly-prolific label Hed Kandi's most popular series Beach House.

And?
Good concept and all, but where's the sand? Most of the material locks the Latin percussion away for romantic nighttime tunes (Miguel Migs "Brand new Day," Julius Papp "A Thousand Years") certainly not aimed for friendly loafing on an afternoon. That leaves Malena, DJ Chus, an aptly named Holder classic "Summer Daze," and the vibrant Ibadan mix of rain-on-my-parade queen Beth Orton's "Central Reservation" to carry the concept - tunes that have traveled everywhere for three years now.

But?
There's still some delectable cuts here. Ashley Beedle of X-press 2 fame irons out the jilting tempo of Bent's original "Always" for a piano-led anthem floating a beguiling old-record vocal. Which makes up for his cack "Lazy." Meanwhile Lazy Grace cover a song correctly, as the Bee Gees' "How Deep is Your Love" receives the dancing queen treatment to wondrous effect. Jon Cutler's relaxed "You Groove Me" has the hook you'll remember most when it's all done, while Octave One's "Blackwater" is indeed, the strings-techno uplifting jewel worthy of the 2002 buzz.

Like all the rest of Hed Kandi's releases, there's a handful of must-haves, some duds, and a large middle range of pleasant-enough goodies. Beach House may not meet its intended concept, but the music carries this through for a worthy release.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome..........2002-09-29

This is yet another must have Hed Kandi compilation! You can't find good soulful house on any other comp cd. A couple tracks that I guarantee you will have at deafening levels, are Kaskade's "It's You, It's Me," Solu's "Fade", Octave One's "Black Water," and Malena's "Con Migo." Other notable tracks are, "Summer Daze" by Nick Holder, "Brand New Day" by Miguel Migs and "How Deep is Your Love" by Lazy Grace. (Remake of Bee Gees song). If you're a house head, this album won't disappoint!

5 out of 5 stars Return to the Beach, Hed Kandi Style........2002-09-03

"Beach House" is simply too good a compilation to be played only during the summer months at the beach. This collection of laid-back house is an excellent collection that can be played after dark, indoors, or to spice things up at a dinner party. We get warm grooves, soulful vocals, Latin and African influences, and mellowed-out beats. In other words, this ain't no "Totally Dance." Tracks of note on Disc 1 are "Believe" by Soldiers of Twilight, an impressive cover of the Bee Gees' "How Deep is Your Love" by Lazy Grace, and the favorite club staple "Lazy" by the David Byrne side project X-press 2. On Disc 2, Miguel Migs (known for his contribution to a couple of the Naked Music collections) shines in "Brand New Day" and the great closer "Black Water" by Octave One works pretty well. Note: this is NOT a mix CD. I thought the tracks would be blended in together like a DJ mix CD, but this is not the case. Still, it matters none to me. "Beach House" is a classy compilation that won't look out of place in your collection of dance music.

I wasn't able to preview this set beforehand and was wondering if I would like the sound. Well, this is up there with the best of the Head Kandi and house sound. Well produced and very enjoyable tracks that make any day seem like a day at the beach.

If you like mostly top quality house vocals with some outstanding instrumentals, then this is for you.

3 out of 5 stars Misstep.......2005-05-23

The latest addition to the BEACH HOUSE series is one of the weaker entries. BEACH HOUSE is a compilation filled with house grooves with a latin feel to them. For some reason this one just doesn't add up. The good tracks though, are awesome. These include StoneBridge "Can't Get Enough", Miguel Migs "Do It For You", Kaskade "Safe", Nars feat Emma "I Wanna Know", Late Night Alumni "The Rest of me", Afterlife "Breather", Bonnie Bailey "Ever After", Peyton "I'll Rise" and Moony "This Is Your Life". There's other good moments but ultimately the collection is a little flat.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent Beach House set.......2004-08-19

This is definitely becoming one of my favorite Hed Kandi purchases and at least matches or even beats the great 04.02 volume of Beach House. Overall, the sounds are more deep, more fresh, and more electro than Beach House usually sounds. Some of the songs are also dancier and livelier, while others fulfill the promise of sundrenched summer listening. As a whole, the album is great and has zero subpar material. Standouts include Can't Get Enough, I Love You My Hope, Aurora, Ever After, I'll Rise, and Happy. And these songs are more than worth the purchase price alone. So, if you are just getting into Hed Kandi, this would be a great place to start since it is a perfect example of Beach House and very modern in its selections. If you are already into the label and Beach House, definitely pick this up because it really lives up to the standard of Hed Kandi's excellent compilations.

5 out of 5 stars Beautifully Illustrated.......2004-08-12

I'm always amazed at how simple, yet perfectly Hed Kandi CD's are illustrated. In this case, there's a beautiful scuba diving lady in a seductive pose. And strangely enough, that's exactly how all 24 songs sound like.

CD1 features delicious beach music with an underwater flare. It's the same sounding Beach House we're used to, but somehow darker and slightly deeper, just like a soundtrack to our lovely model swimming deep into the ocean of a deserted island. You can even visualize a school of jellyfish, or maybe even a distant shark.

CD2 is a lot more dancey, like Miss Kandi is having a wild party after her diving adventures, it's absolutely fantastic. There wasn't a single song that reeked of "Filler" on either of the CDs. There were, of course, a few that stood out but none were short of awesome.

CD1's highlights include tracks 1, 4, 5, 6, and 10
CD2's highlights include tracks 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, and 12

Anything by Hed Kandi is worth buying, but this is definately one of their bests.

3 out of 5 stars "Beach House 04.04" Stays the Course........2004-08-10

2004's "Beach House" offers more of what we expect from this Hed Kandi series: summery, often percussion heavy house. The best of these 24 unmixed tracks can be found on disc one, with delectable selections like Kaskade's "Safe," Nars & Emma's "I Wanna Know," and "Tell Me All About It" by Treena Rose. Miguel Migs, a DJ whose style of house fits perfectly into this compilation, is represented on "Do It For You." But disc 2 is where the magic nearly unravels. While a handful of the cuts on this disc may warrant a replay, it ultimately loses both a bit of steam and focus. It kicks off promisingly with Eric Kupper's sensual "Auora" and Peyton's "I Rise," one of the few house tracks on this set with a male vocal. But some other selections don't work, such as a flat cover of 808 State's "Pacific" and Max Sedgeley's "Happy," which isn't even house. Warts and all, though, "Beach House 04.04" is far from a misfire. The first disc is a winner, while the second disc is split between interesting jams and filler cuts.
